Welcome to StuffSafe

By Jeff Apr 20 00:00:00, 2007

This week saw a flurry of activity on StuffSafe since it was picked up by Buzzshout.com .  In the interest of keeping users informed about the current and future direction of this site, I started the StuffSafe blog.  Look here first to find out about bug fixes, new features and information about creating a home inventory.

First, I want to say a big "Thanks!" to all the new members.  As you no doubt have noticed, StuffSafe needs a bit of work.  The basic functionality is in place but several things need to be polished.  For the next 2 months, I intend to spend a fair amount of time addressing issues with the site.

Of course, this process is made easier by listening to your opinions about the site.  Feel free to contact me with feedback at any time either in the blog comments or through the Contact page .  I'm open to suggestions for improvement as well.  Is there a feature missing that you can't live without?  Let me know and I'll try to work it in.

My next post will be a running log of changes and bug fixes.  If you registered to use StuffSafe in the past year, you'll want to look here to find out if any nagging issues have been resolved.

Thanks for reading.

Hi, I just created my account, with a Location, Room, and items. There is a problem when I click the "Edit Item" button, to change the cost of the item. I'm redirected to the Home Page, instead of the intended edit page/dialog box. Is there another way to edit an existing item? Thanks, deAnguelo

Having exact problem as deAnguelo. Also, search does not work. Also, download does not work. I filed bug and help but am getting no response. Was there software really ever completed? Is it even still being supported? Would like some idea before committing more time to it.

I signed up yesterday, received & replied to the confirm email but I can't log in.
I thought that maybe I was entering in something incorrectly so I tried to have my password resent and the system didn't recognise my email.
I got the link to your site from Lockergnome & I'm wondering if any of them are having the same problem?
jentoftnilsen Oct 17, 2007

Nick - Did you try logging in directly from the homepage? (http://www.stuffsafe.com/index.php). That is the one that works for me. If I try logging in from this page, for example, it doesn't work. Hopefully that does the trick for you. Have no idea why it doesn't recognize your email address. Haven't tried that "feature" yet.

Hey, Jeff...this site is simply a brilliant idea. With all the natural disasters that happen every year, we are ALL faced with the unfortunate possibility of experiencing some loss. This site is great for cataloging data and having world-wide access to it on a moment's notice. While I hope I never have to see my agent in his office after a loss, I smile at the thought of being able to sit at his computer and pull up my account on his computer and be able to print out a complete inventory of items on the spot---even complete with pictures. Two questions... 1) You mention privacy information regarding blog postings (and one other section of your website), but what about the information we input into the system? You should probably have a privacy statement regarding that. 2) I, too, have had problems with the profile section where I enter the URL of my insurance company and click on the "test URL" button, and I'm taken to the StuffSafe homepage instead of the URL I entered.

...so, after posting a wonderful review, I'm concerned that with the exception of the fact that items CAN be entered and cataloged, NOTHING can be printed. I cannot print out an inventory in any of formats that are selectable, and I cannot print out any photos. I get mysql errors in both cases. I'm glad I haven't spend a LOT of time entering data into this site, because without these very important functional elements, this site is simply a wonderful idea that has not been seen through to fruition.

The idea is wonderful, but i'm having the same problem
as deAnguelo, and jentoftnilsen. I also can't find a way to
to add a different room at the same location. Also, as an
American, living in retirement in the Philippines, will you
add a way to to select currency choices. We uses the peso
here. Keep up the good work.

Does anyone know if this site is still being developed/maintained? I am unable to print or download and it seems people were having this problem months ago. The buttons do not do anything.

great site, I love it. Perhaps add a quantity section? for example, I have a shelf full of old junk computers. It would be nice to input a quantity...to say that I have 5 of them instead of entering each individually.

Having same problem as other people in not being able to print my inventory. Love the fact that this site is free to use but there seems to be some kinks that need to be worked out.

I signed up but the site still needs work. Here is another site that offers free inventory software. It works.

Hey guys, I was having the same sign-in issues and URL redirects. I decided to make a switch and just came across a new online home inventory system called MyVault that is being developed. I emailed the founder since he put his email on their blog and he is very enthusiastic about what they are developing. This site will be fully user-customizable, allows for creating, emailing and PRINTING custom claim reports, gives users dedicated storage space for backing up important files, among other features. They are also offering free 6 months of use for testing out their Beta version. The founder was very interesting in hearing what I wanted out of the system, so give them your feedback if you check it out.

Colin,
What is the website address?
Colin Apr 28, 2008

Sorry, its www.myvaulthome.com

I am going to come right out and admit that I am the co-founder of a home inventory website, so I'm being upfront about my bias. If you all want to check out our site, it is www.anywherevault.com. We're going to be launching a whole new look in a couple of weeks that will list professionals you can hire that will do the inventorying for you. We'll also be promoting a cool, great way to document your belongings in only 30 minutes! That way, almost noone can say they don't have time to prepare for a loss. One piece of advice, when you are going to these online sites, be sure to research the encryption and security measures they use. Even though we're not a bank, we need the same security as one! Oh, and AnywhereVault lets you print any file and photo you upload and also any of the PDF reports you create. We don't want to hold your own information hostage. Feel free to email me directly as well at bprice@anywherevault.com. Best of luck and congrats on caring about being prepared!

This is similar to ContentsList.com but your site is free. How do you provide such a great service for no money.
Marilyn Mar 27, 2010

Jeff, are you still working on this site? It's so quiet here, I wonder if I am joining an orphaned program.
